iPhone X: Overvalued or worth the Price?

Apple just announced it's plans to release three new models of it's infamous iPhone, and these models offer quite a few new advantages to user preferences. The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus have a lot to offer for it's users, but the hype is surrounded around the brilliantly designed iPhone X. Before we look into the specs that this new iPhone comes with, let's take a quick glimpse at the pricing for these new models. The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus come in at $699 and $799, respectively, but the iPhone X will start at $999, and depending on how many GB you want it could cost you upwards of $1,149. This bring us to our conversation: is it worth it?

The iPhone X possesses some of the most advanced technology that exists today. Some of these attributes with noting include the new Face ID feature that unlocks the phone. Apple advertises how this significantly enhances security among the phone, and additionally says that this feature is very reliable. To access it, all you have to do is raise the phone or just tap the screen, and the display will appear, scan your facial structures, and your phone is magically unlocked! This is quite remarkable, and although there will certainly be questions regarding it's dependability early on, this is some impressive technology.

Furthermore, Apple has decided to do away with the home button at the bottom of the screen. Thus doing away with the touch ID aspect. Now the OLED display is from edge to edge, all the while of keeping the phone water resistant. Apple says that this new tricked-out display is it's most powerful LED technology to date. Apple also has enhanced the battery life on this model, supposedly holding charge for 2 more hours than the iPhone 7. What's incredible also, is the fact that you no longer have to charge your phone through a wire/cord. Apple is introducing wireless charging through it's AirPower Pad, and this device will be able to charge all apple devices by 2018.

Not to mention the camera capabilities have been significantly advanced, it's safe to say that Apple has put an abundance of their capabilities into this device. The question is, if it's worth the price though. In my opinion, I don't think that they will be able to sell as many iPhone X's as they hope to, simply due to the excessive price. But with all the advanced capabilities this phone possesses, i do believe that the $999 price that they are asking for will sell. The phone hypothetically is worth the price to me, but it's yet to be seen if the phone will perform as advertised.

  1. I think the new iPhone X will be the best smartphone on the market, but not for the price. I just ordered an iPhone 8 plus. From all of the research I found, the 8 plus is supposed to have the same speed and battery life as the X. The only features I will be missing out on are the edge to edge display and the face scanner. I'm okay with that if I can save $150.

  2. For me, it does not appear that the new iPhone X is worth the price. However, am I Apple's target market? Does Apple even need a target market? Eventually, my AT&T contract will expire, and I will need to upgrade my current 6S to a new Apple device. I must have an iPhone! I will never buy an Android or any other non-Apple device in the near future. Apple has me hooked on their phones, and they know that. That is why they can afford to charge such outrageous prices for their phone. Will I purchase an X? Maybe not, but they know that I will have to settle for a new 7 or 8. For them, they could care less about which model I buy. As long as i purchase a new apple directly from them or through AT&T, they consider that a win. That is why they came out with the other two models along with the X.

  3. The new features of the IPhone X are definitely the best that any smart device has to offer, but I agree, I feel as though they may not be able to sell as many as they expect. I now with Verizon, they are able to set u a payment plan and add money to your monthly bills, which might make it easier for people that can't afford to pay $1000 up front for the device. I hope that with this many new features, that there will not be tons of glitches and problems with the phone. If people pay that much and find problems with the devices, this would be terrible for Apple's reputation.

  4. I've read some where that the processor for the new IPhone's are actually faster than any other on the market. But I can see where the skepticism comes from. Apple has always seemed to be more flash than substance, and their prices can seem pretty ridiculous, but I can't say I haven't fallen for their ways. Team apple!

  5. I read that component part suppliers for the iPhone X were already told to slow delivery. Whether that is true or not, in my opinion, a phone is not worth $1000.

  6. I think it's so interesting that they are releasing the iPhone 8/8 plus at the same time as the iPhone X. It makes you wonder what the key motivation was for doing that. I know personally, my initial thought was, why would i buy the iPhone 8 if they are releasing another product that they are marketing as "better" and "more advanced"? I figure a lot of it is segmenting their marketing like they did with the iPhone 5 and 5c, but it was definitely confusing for me. It's also insane how the iPhone X is basically the cost of some of their laptops. It's crazy to see how technology is changing. Great post!

  7. I don't think the iPhone X is worth the price at all. While I understand wanting to make technological advances, I don't see the point in facial recognition when the touch ID is working just fine. I also don't understand the point in the wireless charging. If it's the same type charger as the one they have for Apple Watches, then you are way more immobile than you are with a regular charging cord, since you won't be able to use your phone much at all when it's charging. I think Apple is more trying to show off what they can do rather than focusing on what is practical for the customer.

  8. I think there is a true difference between the iPhone 8 and the X but not for the price. The lack of a button and charging station are cool but not for the upgrade. As for the camera, I am not noticing that much of a difference when I saw comparisons between the two. I will likely fall into the "new iphone" trap but personally right now I do not think its worth it.

  9. Apple's ability to remain competitive and showcase amazing technological features is remarkable, without question. However, when it comes to the hype surrounding the product, the price point is a huge deal breaker for me. As a lagger in the technology industry, I tend to wait until all of the kinks get worked out and am not one to jump on the bandwagon without immense hesitation. While I do think that the features offered by the iPhone 8, 8 Plus, and X are awesome, I'm fine with waiting to purchase one myself.

  10. I agree that the price for the iPhone X is pretty steep for the typical consumer. There is a difference between the 8 and x but I don't believe it is worth the significant price increase. Love this article and how you compared the different products.

  11. While I think that it is certainly overpriced, you're not buying the phone. You're buying the brand, and that's why they are confident in such a high selling price. They know that there is a VERY large portion of people who will ONLY buy an iPhone, so they know it'll sell. They're apple, so they can definitely get away with it. Nice analysis.

  12. I have very mixed feelings about the iPhone X. I do believe that those apple-obsessed consumers and "techies" will be the first ones to buy the newest iPhone, but when it comes to regular customers, I believe they may have difficulty selling this model. While it does have state of the art features, many people do not have the financial resources to drop $1,000 on a new phone. It will be interesting to see how the iPhone X performs after its release.

  13. I really enjoyed reading your blog about the iPhone X. I think it will definitely be the most popular smartphone at this time, however I think it could potentially be matched by another phone down the line. I think people who are loyal to Apple and have all apple products will buy the iPhone X and the price won't be a huge factor. Most of those people love technology and follow the latest fad, which is the iPhone X.
